A perennial favorite with sailors, the press and the public alike, this year's Frostbite Race sported
conditions worthy of the name. Temperatures hovered around the freezing mark, and the racers
were dusted with the occasional snow flurry. Westerly winds blew around 20-25 knots for most
of the event, interspersed by brief moments of deceptive calm and gusts approaching 50 knots.
While race day often combines unique aspects of Sunday brunch, boat maintenance and marathon dance, this year's event added elements of cryogenics, high impact aerobics and demolition derby. Special thanks to Dave Boyd, hearty soul and photographer extraordinaire for the Johnson City Press, for braving the elements with his trusty Nikon and recording the event for posterity, and to the Johnson City Press for carrying the story. |
